When we first heard these songs on tape, both the sound and the intensity of the songs stuck us as being something very special, a meeting point between the atmosphere of Joy Division and the Aphex Twin... maybe? A new soundtrack to Jean-Luc Godard's Masculin Feminin... perhaps? But it's difficult to pinpoint. Britpop it ain't.

Here's what our US distributor, Arthur Nalis of Dutch East India had to say...
"Well, based on first impressions, I'm wickedly impressed... like this tape is absolutely excellent... I must admit it's one of the most accessible releases to come from the world of TOUCH. Even though the sonic sculptures of the band's compositions are in line with the TOUCH catalogue, there should be tremendous crossover appeal with both the more trendy experimental (trip-hop/ambient/drum-n- bass) dance markets, as well as the more alternative avant-pop markets. Fans of PORTISHEAD, TRICKY and MASSIVE ATTACK should love SCALA as much as fans of STEREOLAB & LAIKA. The HEART OF GLASS cover is brilliant and should be a hit on the dancefloor... On a personal note, some of their more experimental grooves reminded me somewhat of the more interesting GILBERT & LEWIS collaborations. I totally love this tape...
